PLASTOPOL FP
Flexible Polymeric Cement Additive

PLASTOPOL FP is a flexible polymer dispersion to be used as an additive to cement for protecting steel from corrosion. Cement being alkaline in nature, forms an alkaline environment around steel structures and gives protection against corrosion. However, cement has poor flexural strength and low tensile strength, as a result it chips off from the steel structure at the slightest impact. The adhesion of cement to steel is also poor. PLASTOPOL FP overcomes these drawbacks of cement giving it greater flexibility and excellent adhesion to steel surfaces. It also gives excellent bonding between old and new concrete when incorporated in cement mortars.
• PLASTOPOL FP is an alkaline polymer
• PLASTOPOL FP increases flexibility of cement
• PLASTOPOL FP gives excellent adhesion to steel surfaces, and also improves bonding between old and new concrete
• PLASTOPOL FP increases tensile strength of cement

TEST RESULTS
PLASTOPOL FP meets IS 2074/1962 requirements. Gives good resistance to salt spray. On comparison, it was found that steel bars coated with epoxy showed substantial bond loss with concrete whereas steel bars coated with PLASTOPOL FP and cement coatings and embedded in concrete show no bond loss with concrete.

APPLICATIONS
» For passivating exposed steel in repairs of structural members
» For coating reinforcement bars in new R.C.C. structures
» For coating pipelines of mild steel
» Used in marine environments for coating mild steel structures, bridges, arches, etc
» For coating H.T. wires in prestressed concrete pipes
» As coating for prestressing cables/strands, etc.
» As bonding coat between new and old concrete

PROCEDURE
1. Clean the rusted steel surface off all loosely held rust particles and scales using a stiff wirebrush.
2. Then apply the passivating solution- ‘RUSTOFF’ with a cotton waste swab. After 24 hrs, with the help of a soft paint     brush, remove any scales that have been loosened by ‘RUSTOFF’.
3. Mix 1 kg of PLASTOPOL FP with 1 to 1.5 kg of fresh Portland cement to give a lump free slurry. Apply this slurry to the   passivated steel surface with a paint brush. Make sure that the entire surface is coated and no area is left    uncovered.
4. Allow this coating to cure for 4 hours. Then apply the second coat. Allow this coat to completely dry and cure for 4     hours.
5. To ensure best results cover the coated steel surfaces to protect them from direct sunlight.

PRECAUTIONS
»  Do not thin with water.
»  Make only a limited quantity of slurry, enough to use in 30 minutes
» PLASTOPOL FP is not harmful. But any accidental spillage or splash on the body must be thoroughly washed with    water immediately. Wear protective goggles while mixing slurry.
»  All implements should be washed with soap and water. Hardened deposits should be mechanically removed.

COVERAGE
The coverage is 8 to 10 sq. mts. Per kg of PLASTOPOL FP per coat on steel surface.

PACKING
PLASTOPOL FP is available in 5 and 20 kg carboys.
